A small batch high strength 10 year Bunnahabhain  2013, bottled in 2024 without coloring or chill filtering by Signatory Vintage as Edition #7 in their excellent 100 Proof Editions series. This one comes from a batch of Oloroso sherry butts that was bottled at 57.1% and has a wonderful dark colour, so expect lots of epic classic sherry fruity Islay.

What does the 100 Proof label mean?

In the whiskey world, "100 Proof" refers to the alcohol content of a spirit, especially whiskey. 100 Proof is equivalent to 50% alcohol by volume. This system of “Proof” was traditionally used in the United States and Great Britain, where the Proof value was twice as high as the percentage of alcohol. So if a spirit was 100 Proof, it contained 50% or more alcohol.

However, the Proof system is no longer in use so the alcohol percentage is more commonly used to indicate the strength of the spirit. However, in a historical and traditional sense, 100 Proof refers to 50% alcohol content.
